Idea Contest

1. Objective
1.1 The CTM Idea Contest (hereafter referred to as Contest) aims to promote and reward scientific research by students and researchers from undergraduate and Master programs in the areas of Telecommunications and Multimedia Technologies.

2. Eligibility Criteria
2.1 The Contest is open to applicants (individuals or groups) who are currently enrolled as undergraduate or Master students in a Portuguese University associated with INESC TEC.
2.2 Applicants with past or current links to INESC TEC are not eligible to participate in the Contest.

3. Eligible Ideas
3.1 The ideas submitted to the Contest should identify a research problem to which a clear methodological approach should be presented in the following four domain areas of Telecommunications and Multimedia Technologies:
– Information Processing and Pattern Recognition;
– Multimedia Communication Technologies;
– Communication Networks;
– RF, Microwave and Optical Technologies.

4. Submission Process
4.1 To submit an idea, please send a 2-page abstract in English describing your idea according to the following topics:
a) context and research problem;
b) proposed solution to the problem;
c) impact of the idea.
4.2 Required documentation should be sent to the following email address: opendayctm@inesctec.pt.

5. Dates
5.1 The documentation should be sent to the Contest up until 4 April, 2017.
5.2 The results will be announced on a public presentation of the Content on the 6 of April, 2017, and the applicant awarded with the best idea may be invited to shortly present the submitted idea to the audience.

6. Evaluation Criteria
6.1 Submitted ideas will be evaluated according to the following topics:
a) innovation;
b) degree of relevance to the areas identified in 3.1;
c) the methodological approach;

d) application and market potential.

7. Jury
7.1 The jury is responsible for the evaluation of submitted ideas.
7.2 The jury consists of an odd number of CTM collaborators.
7.3 The jury decisions are final and not subject to appeal.

8. Prize
8.1 The jury can attribute one prize and two honourable mentions.
8.2 The best idea is rewarded with a 300€ (three hundred euros) prize.
8.3 The jury reserves the right not to award any prize, if the ideas do not reach a minimum level of quality.
8.4 A certificate of participation will be issued to all participants.
8.5 The opportunity to join the INESC TEC team of collaborators may be presented to any participant.

9. IP rights terms and conditions
9.1. Any documentation and/or materials and respective contents submitted as an application, shall be the exclusive property of INESC TEC.
9.2. Notwithstanding what is provided in 9.1. the INESC TEC policy will be to license back to each applicant the use of their respective application documentation/ materials, under a worldwide, perpetual, transferable, sub licensable, nonexclusive, fully paid-up and royalty free license to use, have used, import, export and otherwise provide, transfer, deliver, or dispose of said application documentation/ materials.
9.3. For the sake of clarity, by submitting your application, you acknowledge, in particular, that INESC TEC, its affiliates, and its directors, officers, employees and contractors, researchers and/ or students may independently, and regardless of being or not based on your submitted ideas and /or the application materials submitted by you (i) create, develop or purchase products, services, information or materials, or (ii) work on, develop, submit, sponsor or commission projects, related to or similar to the subject matter of your application.
